Experience and Education
I've worked at Networks Counseling Center in San Francisco and Sausalito since August 2002, initially training under the supervision of noted couples/family therapist Dr. Rodney Shapiro and developing a private practice. I've worked with clients on a wide variety of issues -- particularly those noted on the Specialties page -- brought to me by individual adults, couples, young children, adolescents, and families. I have additional training in couples counseling, dreamwork, and trauma recovery.
Before coming to Networks, I trained for 3 years at Family Service Agency of Marin. In the Pregnancy and Early Parenting Center Program, I worked with mothers, fathers, and children ages 0-5. Typical issues included depression (incuding postpartum depression), anxiety, anger management, substance abuse, relationship conflicts, and parenting skills. In the Suicide Prevention and Community Counseling Program, I worked with clients on issues of grief and loss, and staffed the crisis hotline.
I've also worked as a counselor at four schools: Old Mill Elementary, Edna Maguire Elementary, Loma Verde Elementary, and Grant Grover Middle School. I worked with individual children on such issues as behavior problems, anxiety, shyness, and depression. I also conducted groups for children struggling with divorce and social skills.
I began my counseling career at Kara, where I was trained as a grief counselor. I worked with adults facing life-threatening illness and clients who had recently experienced the death of a family member or friend.
Before beginning my second career in psychotherapy and counseling, I worked in Silicon Valley for 20 years as an intern, individual contributor, manager, and executive. In business, I received substantial training and experience in conflict resolution, coaching, career development, time management, goal-setting, and business development -- all skills that I find applicable to my work as a psychotherapist.
I am a husband, parent, step-parent, son, brother, widower, business professional and athlete -- all experiences that I find applicable to my work as a psychotherapist.
I received my M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Dominican University, my M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University, and my B.A. in Computer Science from UC Berkeley. I'm a Clinical Member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, and I'm a graduate of the Hoffman Process.
